Brooklyn Urban Ecology and Environment Program
Summer 2025 (No Program)
NSF’s REU programs are open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents enrolled in an Associates or Baccalaurate degree program. Students accepted into the program will ideally be early-career undergraduates, a group traditionally underserved by REU programs.
BUEE students are selected from a pool of national, regional, and local applicants, ensuring a wide variety of perspectives and experience among program participants. Students are provided with a competitive stipend, housing and food allowances, and relocation credit for travel from outside the region. All participants also receive an unlimited metro pass, allowing travel throughout the NYC metro area.
Applications should be submitted as a single PDF file, including contact details, resume, academic transcripts, and a personal statement addressing student interests in urban ecology and environmental science and their motivation for applying to the program – incomplete applications cannot be accepted. Applicants should also list three potential mentors/projects from the list published on the BUEE website. Students should arrange to have two letters of recommendation forwarded by email to the REU coordinator before the application deadline (March 1). Following the initial evaluation of application materials, candidates short-listed for admission will be contacted for interview before the end of March.
BUEE will not take place in summer 2025. Please check again in early 2026 for more information on upcoming programs.
